In spite of the extremely cold weather, kids, along with parents, joined in the fun at the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration held at the library on Saturday, Jan. 20.
“It turned out great and we all had a good time,” said Etta LaFlora, executive director of the Sunshine Community Services Center.
LaFlora thanked the AmeriCorps members who volunteered to assist with activities; the Kewanee Public Library for hosting the event and the media for helping to get the word out. The event was previously scheduled for an earlier date but was postponed due to a winter snow storm.

Attendees enjoyed games, crafts, books and a slice of birthday cake at the annual event.
