In heartbreaker loss to Rockridge, Boiler girls season comes to a close

The Kewanee Boiler Girls softball team wrapped up their season with a tough loss in the Regional Championship game against Rockridge on Friday. The final score was 0-1.

The game was quiet for five innings, as the Boiler girls and Rockridge battled to hold each other scoreless. Rockridge managed to get on the board with one run in the fifth inning. The Boiler girls held them for another two innings, but couldn’t get their own run on the board, leaving the score to 0-1 by the seventh.

The Boiler girls had three hits total during the game. Makaela Salisbury, Hope Peed and Hannah Tiska each had one hit each. Salisbury and Ava Lafollette also managed to pull a walk each and get one base.

Kalleigh Gale pitched a complete game for the Boiler girls, working the mound for six innings. She had no walks, five strikeouts, and allowed only five hits from Rockridge.

With the Boiler girls season coming to an end, seniors McKensey Stontz, Marissa Stevens, Ava Lafollette, and Makaela Salisbury gave their best efforts and wore the orange and black with pride in their final game on the field as a Boilermaker.

The Boiler Girls finished conference play 9-3 and overall had an impressive record of 16-8.
