This month shines a spotlight on Hispanic heritage as Kewanee celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. This will be the fourth year Kewanee has marked the occasion with a festival.
The goal of Hispanic Heritage Celebration is to create an inclusive and welcoming space where community members can come together to celebrate, learn and appreciate the richness of Hispanic culture. Live music, cultural performances, authentic cuisine and family-friendly activities are planned.

Sponsors of last year’s event has ensured that the event is free to the public which allows greater community participation and impact. Organizers say the event sponsors also made it possible to feature talented performers and introduce the Orgullo Hispano Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the community.
On top of the Orgullo Hispano Award, the committee will also be awarding two $1,000 scholarships during the 2026-27 school year to deserving students from Kewanee and Wethersfield.
The committee is actively inviting and accepting sponsors, in the hopes to expand these opportunities and further support Hispanic families.

The event will feature lil’ vendors, which will offer children from ages 4-17 a firsthand look at what it’s like to be a provider for a community event. Registration is free and children must be supervised. There will also be live music, authentic food and vendors.
The celebration will take place at the American Legion in Kewanee on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 4-11 p.m. Members of the community from all walks of life are invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage.
