KPLD Annual Art Show – Oct. 9-16

The Kewanee Public Library will announce the winners of its annual art contest Wednesday.

Artworks will be on display through Oct. 16. Stop in during regular open hours to walk through and view all of the artwork. But don’t forget to sign in on our sheet while you’re here.

For younger emerging artists, the Youth Services department handed out grab ‘n go bags in September that included everything you’d need to create a small sculpture or miniature painting. Throughout the art show, the library will feature any artwork returned in a special exhibition displayed on the main floor.

Great Kewanee Fire of 1942 – Oct. 15 at 6 p.m.

Kewanee has had several fires throughout the years, but have you heard of the Great Kewanee Fire of 1942? Mike Dewalt of the Kewanee Historical Society will be at the library on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. to recount the events that unfolded that early night in April of 1942 and its aftermath.

Digital Literacy Class

Since there was still interest in the digital literacy classes, the library is bringing them back. Once again, available topics are Essential Computer Skills, which would be basic computer skills; Essential Software Skills, or office productivity skills; and Technology Tools in Daily Life, which will teach you practical computer skills.

If you have a more specific question, you are welcome to stop in during the class and staff work with you to figure it out.

Meetings will be Wednesdays and will run from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. No registration is required to attend the classes; simply stop in.

If you have any questions, please give them a call at 309-852-4505.

Both author talks and Holiday Tips and Tricks with Chef Art Smith, which will be held in Nov. 20, will be available on Zoom.  Simply head our website (kewaneelibrary.org) for the meeting link.

If you aren’t a computer user, we will also be hosting a watch party in our Community Room.

These events are made possible by Illinois Libraries Present (ILP), a statewide collaboration among public libraries offering premier events. ILP is funded in part by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library, a department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act.
