The city of Kewanee will complete the installation of two new sirens this Thursday and Friday.

While the sirens are being installed, residents may hear intermittent siren activations at random times during regular business hours.

On Friday, after installation is complete, technicians will run a full test of all the sirens, at some point between 10 a.m. and noon. This will be similar to the regular testing done the first Tuesday each month at 10 a.m.

“Residents are reminded that this is just a test and need not worry about seeking cover,” Fire Chief Stephen Welgat said.

The regular testing at 10 a.m. the first Tuesday of each month will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 1, Welgat said.

After this installation process, the City of Kewanee will be using four warning sirens, located at Railroad Avenue and See Street, Emmons Avenue and Dwight Street, Church and Bronson streets, and Park and Fifth streets.

The sirens currently located at Tenney Street (Sullivan’s Grocery Store) and Third Street (Berrian Park) will be decommissioned as they will become redundant.
