GENESEO — The Geneseo City Council on Tuesday approved an $11,030 survey for the Illinois Department of Transportation to evaluate the viability of using an ingress and egress point on Illinois 82 for the proposed sports complex.
The decision followed extended discussion led by Alderman Craig Arnold, who raised concerns about potential long‑term spending commitments tied to the project. Arnold also suggested the city negotiate clearer timelines for future work, noting the recent fountain project completed by Corn Crib took two years and cost $26,985.
In other business, the city’s two new police vehicles are being fitted with signals but remain delayed due to parts shortages.
City staff reported that linemen were temporarily pulled from the Chestnut Street project to assist with work on Ford Road, where three homes are now online and a fourth will be added before seven poles are removed. When Alderwoman Paula Simosky asked why Chestnut work had slowed, officials explained the area serves as a main distribution line and tie. A failure there would cut power to all customers south of Chestnut.
The council also heard updates on several community events. The recent job fair at Hammond‑Henry Hospital drew more than 100 job seekers and 20 employers.
Tickets are available for the Chamber of Commerce annual dinner on Nov. 5, which will feature an ’80s theme.
Trains, Planes and Automobiles will take place over the weekend, with the main event Saturday. Cruise the Canal and the model railroaders display are set for Friday, along with a pre‑party at Erdman Construction featuring live music and food trucks. The State Street Market is Oct. 3.
The revamped Witches Night Out: Witches, Brews and Boos will be held Oct. 22, and Scarecrow Row is scheduled for Oct. 31.
Petitions for the upcoming elections are available at City Hall.
