General surgeon to see patients at OSF Saint Luke

KEWANEE – OSF HealthCare Saint Luke Medical Center has announced that general surgeon Matthew Heberer will begin seeing patients in January, expanding access to general surgery services for Kewanee and the surrounding areas.

A Kewanee native, Dr. Heberer said he is grateful for the opportunity to care for his hometown community. “I believe in simple, friendly care and honest conversations,” he said. “My goal is to help people understand their options so they can make informed decisions about their health.”

Dr. Heberer earned his bachelor of science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria.

He completed his general surgery residency at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. His areas of expertise include gallbladder disease, abdominal wall hernias, skin lesions and endoscopy. 

Known for his approachable style, Dr. Heberer enjoys building relationships and seeing the positive impact surgical care can have on a person’s quality of life.
