On Monday night, the Geese fell in three sets against the Sterling Newman Comets.
Newman started off with the serve, but the Geese quickly got on a roll and good blocks and serves allowed them to build a comfortable lead.
Newman responded with good hits to try to close that gap and called their first timeout with the score at 11-4 Geese.
Out of the timeout, the Geese continued with solid hits, easily winning the first set 25-14.
The Geese opened the first set on serve, hoping to carry over the energy they showed earlier. They were strong at the net, putting up solid blocks throughout the set. Newman, however, kept the score tight from start to finish. Both teams played steady defense, making each point hard‑earned on either side of the net.
Newman ended up pulling it out 22-25, sending the game to a third set.
The Geese opened on serve, but Newman quickly took control and moved in front. A string of mistakes on the Geese’s side allowed Newman to keep widening the gap.
Newman eventually pulled away for good and won the set 18–25.
The Newman sophomores won 24-26, 25-21, 15-5, and in the freshman game, the Geese won 25-14, 25-15.
