
New varsity basketball coach Kyle Galli picked up the first victory of his career at Wethersfield High School Monday, as the Flying Geese beat Putnam County 53-41 in the first night of the Wally Keller Invitational Tournament.
In the evening’s other games, Bureau Valley topped Stark County 78-50, and Annawan beat Elmwood 55-28.
The Flying Geese trailed Putnam County 8-7 after the first quarter, then outscored them 17-9 in the second to take a 25-16 halftime lead. Wethersfield led 44-35 after three quarters.
Kellan Keane led the Geese with 17 points. Zeb Rashid added 13 and Drew Hornback had 12.
Jaden Stoddard led the Panthers with 13.
Annawan jumped out to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter over Elmwood and never looked back. Maddux Heitzler scored 10 of his team-leading 15 points in the quarter.
The Braves led 33-11 at the half and 48-22 after three quarters.
Brody Childs added 11 for Annawan. Garrett Webster led Elmwood with 11 points.
Landon Hulting’s 23 points led the Storm over the Rebels. Bureau Valley was up 42-22 at the half.
Blake Foster had 13 and Elijah Endress scored 11 for Bureau Valley.
Connor Daum led the Rebels with 17 points.
