There’s a lot more than metal behind the walls of J Mac Metals.
The company on Route 34 on the east edge of Galva was founded in 2010 to sell metal roofing.
Now, 13 years later, J Mac can provide virtually everything a builder needs to create their building, including a broad selection of lumber products.
The most visible sign of the company’s expansion is the new lumber sales facility just west of the original J Mac building.
Adam Baze, president and owner of J Mac, said the new lumber building has 22,400 square feet of indoor space and another 8,400 square feet of outdoor storage area.
In the early days of the business, J Mac looked to provide needed lumber products for builders, but they had to buy those materials at lumber yards — and pay retail prices.
“It just made a lot more sense to carry it here,” Baze said.
Since company officials made that decision, “Anything a lumber yard can get, we can get as well,” he said.
This includes “random items we didn’t typically sell before,” he added.
The lumber operation started as a source for things like roof trusses and 2 by 4’s, but now, “We’re moving to a full-service lumber yard,” Baze said. “We’re always looking to expand. We’re not done growing yet.”
While a contractor can find everything they need for a large building at J Mac, Baze said a homeowner just looking for a couple of boards to complete a home-improvement project is also welcome at the store.
Being a full-service supplier of metal building supplies and lumber makes a contractor’s life easier, Baze said.
“You can literally order a building today and we can have it ready in 24 hours to deliver to you,” he said.
