Galva police report for Oct. 27-Nov. 2

Oct. 27:

A dog was impounded and later returned to its owner after police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 400 block of SW 3rd Street.

Police spoke with a resident who reported that their cat had run away the previous day in the 300 block of NW 1st Avenue. The cat returned home.

Laura McNeeley, 63, Galesburg, was cited for operating a vehicle when registration was suspended for mandatory insurance following a traffic stop in the 800 block of West Division Street. She was released with a required court date.

Police spoke with a walk-in complainant about a neighbor dispute at Galva City Hall.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 500 block of SE 2nd Avenue. The dog was returned to its owner.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance in the 100 block of NW 7th Avenue.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance/civil property dispute in the 600 block of NE 2nd Street.

Police responded to a hit and run accident involving significant damage in the 400 block of SW 7th Street.

Robert Westerfield, 71, Hobart, Ind., was issued a citation for speeding in the 800 block of North Center Avenue.

Oct. 28:

Police responded to a civil property dispute in the 100 block of NE 2nd Street.

Police assisted the Geneseo Police Department in delivering a message to a parent in the 200 block of NW 7th Avenue.

Police responded to an activated panic alarm in the 1000 block of SE 2nd Street. It was determined to be a false alarm due to a power failure.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 800 block of NW 1st Avenue. The officer was unable to contact the animal’s owner, but the complainant was able to contact them through social media, and the dog was returned.

Clair Whiteside III, 29, Galva, was arrested for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, reckless driving and improper lane usage in the 600 block of SE 2nd Street after a follow up on the hit and run accident that was reported the previous night. He was released with a required court date, and a crash report was completed.

Oct. 29:

Police responded to an activated burglar alarm in the 00 block of NW 3rd Street. It was determined to be a false alarm.

Police responded to a complaint about a vehicle driving through the yard in the 700 block of NW 3rd Avenue. It was determined that a parent was giving their young children a ride through the yard.

Police had an abandoned vehicle towed that was left in the 300 block of Commercial Street.

Police spoke with a complainant by telephone regarding a theft of flowers from the Galva Cemetery.

Police responded to an “iPhone detected crash” at the Chester Street railroad tracks. The officer found the phone, which had fallen off the roof of a vehicle.

Police responded to a complaint about a suspicious vehicle that had driven past a residence several times in the 00 block of NW 8th Avenue. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

Oct. 30:

Police responded to an animal neglect complaint in the 00 block of NE 1st Avenue. The officer spoke to the animal owner, and the complaint was unfounded.

Police responded to a crash detection alert in the 300 block of NW 3rd Street. The officer spoke to the owner of the phone, who was having phone issues. No crash occurred.

Police conducted a welfare check of a subject after they reportedly made suicidal comments on SE 2nd Street.

Police responded to a complaint involving forgery and identity theft in the 400 block of NW 9th Street. This remains under investigation.

Police responded to a complaint involving a group of juveniles causing a disturbance in the 400 block of NW 1st Avenue. They were dispersed.

Cory Notbush, 29, Galva, was issued a citation for having expired registration in the 900 block of North Center Avenue.

Oct. 31:

Police responded to a possible disturbance in the roadway in the 00 block of NW 8th Avenue. The subjects left in a vehicle prior to the officer’s arrival.

Police responded to several 9-1-1 calls that plotted in the 900 block of SE 2nd Street. The officer was unable to locate anyone needing assistance.

Police assisted a citizen in the 200 block of Morgan Road.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 500 block of East Division Street.

Police responded to a crash detection alert at the intersection of James B Young Road and 1950 East. The officer found a phone in the roadway and returned it to its owner.

Police participated in the annual trick or treat event in the 300 block of NW 3rd Avenue.

Police responded to a loose dog complaint in the 100 block of NE 6th Street. One of the two dogs was located and returned.

Nov. 1

Police responded to a trespassing complaint in the 200 block of NW 8th Avenue. The officer located the offender and gave him a trespassing warning that he was no longer welcome on the premises.

Police responded to a verbal domestic disturbance/child custody dispute in the 1000 block of SW 2nd Street.

Police responded to an illegal burning complaint in the 600 block of NW 1st Avenue. The resident was burning leaves and was within the ordinance. Complaint unfounded.

Nov. 2:

Police responded to a 9-1-1 hang up in the 100 block of NW 7th Avenue. It was determined to be an accidental dial.

Police responded to a small field fire in the 1300 block of SE 2nd Street. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire.
