
The Kewanee Central eighth-grade girls ended their season with a sectional runner-up finish and five athletes have qualified for the 3A IESA State Meet during the Orion Sectional.
Competing at state will be:
— Kieryn Abernathy in shot put.
— The 4×100 relay team of Kolbie Cernovich, Kalei Rice, Jendayia Crowe and Dani Jo Currier. They will make their second state appearance and hope to defend or better their runner-up state title.
— Dani Jo Currier in the 100-meter, 200 meter and long jump.
Abernathy is now the 8th grade record holder for shot put with a distance of 30’11”. And the 4×100 team holds the school record for both 7th and 8th grade, running a 54.50 this season.
Dani Jo added her name to the record board for the 200-meter run with a time of 27.81 and long jump with a 15′ 9.5″ jump.
“These athletes have gone above and beyond regular practices and training to achieve their status,” Coach Dede Grice said. “They have a lot to be proud of and greater things are yet to come.”
