Fill a bag and feed local families in need, Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive this Saturday

By The Kewanee Voice    May 8, 2024

This week, Kewanee residents will receive a postcard in their mailboxes detailing the annual “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

The drive takes place each year on the second Saturday in May and is an annual volunteer one-day food collection that occurs in 10,000 cities across the country. This year’s food drive will be on Saturday, May 11.

Residents are being asked to fill a bag and help a family in need. Bags can be filled with healthy, non-perishable food items and placed by residents’ mailboxes for pick up.

All of the locally donated food stays in the community with the Kewanee Food Pantry benefiting. Donating non-perishable staple items, such as soup, canned meat and vegetables, peanut butter and cereal low in sugar are preferred. The local food pantry feeds over 1,100 families in need in Kewanee.

Over the last 32 years, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has collected close to 2 billion pounds of food. National partners of the drive include the AFL-CIO, Kellogg’s, the USPS, Valpak, CVS, Vericast, local food pantries and the United Way.
