Fall is the season for pumpkin patches and apple orchards and Tanner’s Orchard, located in Speer, Ill., is a longtime favorite for area families.

The orchard opens for the season in August, giving guests early access to the farm market, sunflower field and the Back 40 Fun Acres. As September and October roll in, Tanner’s hits its peak. Visitors can peruse the pumpkin patch, wander the corn maze or head into the apple orchard to pick their own apples for a small fee.

Tanner’s also makes use of its wide open farmland to host private events. Pancake breakfasts bring early risers into the café, and adults can unwind at s’more nights, gathering around bonfires under the evening sky.

Daily visits offer a chance to explore fields of apples, pumpkins, corn and sunflowers. Seasonal products fill the market shelves including homemade jams, preserves and fresh cider. Guests can also stop by the barnyard to feed goats, chickens and sheep.

The orchard is open daily now through the end of November.
