Kewanee junior Alejandro Duarte was crowned the 215 lb champion Saturday at the Bob Minton Invitational in Orion.
As a team, the Boilermakers placed seventh among the 22 teams that competed. Kewanee also had two wrestlers with second place efforts.
Kewanee scored 128.5 points. Byron won the event with a score of 189.
Landon Mason was runner-up at 144 lbs and Kingston Peterson made his way to the title match at 113 lbs.
Jamal Lasenby fared well with a fourth place finish at 175 lbs and Benjamin Taylor placed sixth in the 138 lbs weight class.
Also earning team points were Waylan Lambert (150 lbs – 7 pts), Jackson Hawkins (190 – 7 pts), Gideon Richards (106 – 4 pts) and Landyn Greenhagen (120 – 4 pts).
Alejandro Duarte (26-2) – 1st Place
In the first place match, Duarte (26-2) battled Orion’s Aiden Fisher (27-8) for nearly four minutes before pinning him at 3:50 for the win.
In the lead up to the championship match, Duarte received a first round bye, won the second round by pin, the quarterfinals match by tech fall and the semifinal round by pin.
After runner-up finishes at the Seneca Irish Invitational and the Porta Invitational, the junior standout recorded his first title match of the season at Orion.
The two title match losses remain Duarte’s only two losses of the season.
