Draw Me Bill to return to the Galva Arts Council on Jan. 10

By Diana Whitney    January 8, 2026

“Draw Me Bill” will return to the Galva Arts Council building on Exchange Street on Saturday, Jan. 10.

An area favorite, Bill will provide a free class on the fundamentals of caricature drawing from 1-4 p.m. For Saturday’s program, he will have participants draw their own faces and exaggerate features, creating a cartoon-like image.

“Looking at how people sit and how they appear, helps with shading and lines,” he said. “And you must draw daily; practice is the key.”

Also known as Bill Douglas, he resides in the Quad Cities and is a sought-after artist by corporations, private citizens and community organizations who want a one-of-a-kind drawing. Whether it’s a birthday party, a wedding, a billboard, a pinball machine or a summer concert, Bill’s signature designs are treasured creations.

In addition to his work as a busy artist, he holds down a full-time job during the day. Evenings and weekends are devoted to his drawings, and he can often be found teaching a class at an art museum, library or conference center.

According to Galva Arts Council board president Linda Getter, Draw Me Bill is a popular figure at the downtown Galva location. “He’s always willing to share his talents with us.”

The Galva Arts Council programs are funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council. Getter notes that this, and other classes, are free to the public, but donations are appreciated. She also encourages people to join the GAC. “That way, they will be kept abreast of all the activities that are offered all year.”

Seating is limited, and Getter encourages those interested to register at galvaarts@gmail.com.
