The First Christian Church, Salvation Army, Rotary Club of Kewanee and the Kewanee Park District have joined forces for an end of summer event with a free day at the pool and backpack and clothing distribution ,all on one day.

The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Oasis Aquatic Center at Northeast Park.

This will mark the fourth year for the Rotary Community Day at the pool, which starts at noon and goes until 6 p.m. Organizers caution that the Oasis at Northeast Park’s maximum capacity is 300 people, and will be managed by the pool staff throughout the day.

In addition, the First Christian Church, the Salvation Army and the Rotary Club will be onsite to distribute school backpacks starting at 11 a.m. Backpacks will contain school supplies needed for the upcoming school year and are given to school-aged children on a first come, first serve basis.

The First Christian Church will also hold a clothing distribution as well beginning at 11 a.m. As part of the church’s ministry, the clothing is free to individuals in need.

Organizers encourage families to come out and have some fun on Aug. 2.
