Cornerstone to host ‘Blue Christmas’ service

By The Kewanee Voice    December 11, 2025

For those who feel more blue than merry during the holidays, Cornerstone Community Wellness is offering a Blue Christmas Candlelight Community Service on Friday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at 302 N. Mason St. in Sheffield, Ill.

According to a news release from CCW Executive Director Elizabeth Pratt, the service is for those who are struggling this holiday season.

“You or someone you know may struggle with finding joy this Christmas, because of a recent change or loss due to death, divorce, sickness, or unfortunate and tragic circumstances.

“The constant refrain on the radio and television, in shopping malls and churches, about the happiness of the season, about getting together with family and friends, reminds many people of what they have lost. The anguish of broken relationships, the insecurity of unemployment, the weariness of ill health, the pain of isolation – all these can make us feel very empty in the midst of celebrating and spending. Adding to this blue mood is the darkest day of the year, the winter solstice.,” the news release said.

Cornerstone Community Wellness is inviting the public to come and bring a friend “to experience a simple time of music, readings and reflection that acknowledge Emmanuel, God with us, in the midst of hard times. Many people need this kind of service during the season of Christmas and find it helpful.”

The short service will be followed by a brief time of light refreshments and fellowship.

Childcare will be available.
