City issues boil order for residents of First and Vine streets following fire hydrant work

By The Kewanee Voice    January 17, 2024

The Public Works Department will be replacing a fire hydrant Wednesday and residents in that area will be without water until the work is completed. Afterwards, those homes could experience rusty water and low water pressure.

A boil order will be in effect until test results come back. Residents affected are asked to take precautions when using water until the water runs clean.

The City is advising to only flush the system by running cold water since running hot water may draw rust into the water heater.

Water being consumed for drinking or eating is all that is under the boil order. Water used for cleaning, laundry and showers does not need to be boiled. The boil order is only for those that experience loss of water on Wednesday.

The following residences will be affected:

501 E. First St.
105 S. Vine St.
108 S. Vine St.
109 S. Vine St.
112 S. Vine St.
116 S. Vine St.
