City grant writer to speak at LWV meeting

By The Kewanee Voice    June 5, 2024

The League of Women Voters of the Kewanee Area is hosting Kathleen Weber, the city of Kewanee grant writer and consultant, on Monday, June 24.

She will give information on grants in general, myths about grants, and reasons they are not won. Also, Weber will clarify how and for which purchases and services the city can use different kinds of grants.

The program will start between 6:15 and 6:20 p.m. at the Kewanee Public Library in the Community Room. Those wishing only to attend that part of the event are welcome to do so.

The Kewanee League of Women Voters’ annual meeting will start at 5:45 p.m. and food will be served at 6:15 p.m. Both portions of the meeting are open to the public.

Anyone joining the League at the meeting will be able to vote on matters that come before the group.

Weber grew up in Kewanee and attended Black Hawk College, East Campus, and Western Illinois University at the Moline campus, majoring in general studies and business administration.

After working in Davenport, she returned to Kewanee and earned a master’s degree in Community and Economic Development. She was a caseworker in Henry, Mercer, and Rock Island counties managing eight to 15 families at a time.

While doing so, she became a community coordinator part time under the Community and Economic Development for the City of Kewanee. Then, she was hired as the city’s first appointed grant writer where she has assisted the city in applying for multiple grants and has received around $1.3 million so far.

Weber has attended year one of the Midwest Community Development Institute and will attend years two and three.
