The Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association is celebrating the 179th Anniversary of the founding of Bishop Hill Colony, and the 129th Anniversary of the Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association on Saturday, Sept. 13. The day begins at 10 a.m. with Fika at the Colony School and their “Meet the Colonists” display that runs through 4 p.m.

The 129th Annual Old Settlers’ gathering will begin at noon with a concert in the park by the Bishop Hill High Society Band, followed by a program at 1 p.m. Featured speaker is Dee Nelson Schroeder – original colonist descendent. Bring lawn chairs, as seating is limited.

A dessert social and area School Reunion will follow the program, and start around 2 p.m. at the Colony School. Entertainment will be provided by local musicians, Deidre and Fiona Light, who play the harp and accordion respectively. Those who attended any school in Bishop Hill or surrounding area, are invited to reconnect with fellow classmates at the reunion.

This event is free and open to the public. Spend the day visiting the shops and museums. See the history, make memories and become part of the Bishop Hill family. Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association is the oldest, active organization in the Village, fueled by dedicated volunteers.
