Catch Dickie and Pat Byrne before summer ends at Galva’s Levitt AMP series

By The Kewanee Voice    July 23, 2025

As the summer begins to wane, Levitt AMP Galva Music Series continues to bring talented musical artists to the area.

With only two more concert evenings left in the summer series, this weekend promises to offer another great night of musical performances. Headlining this weekend is Dickie and Pat Bryne at Galva’s Wiley Park.

Dick Prall is a master of what a recent interviewer called “self-deprecating indie rock.” For almost a decade, the 55-year-old Iowa artist has been best known as Dickie, the loving nickname that his late mother bestowed on him before she passed away in 2013.

Dickie’s newest release, the Headful of Hiss EP, is a gleaming testament to his ever-strengthening gifts as a songwriter, spanning lush folk, irresistibly catchy pop, yearning alternative, windswept heartland rock, and the timeless sensibility of ’60s classics. Produced in Des Moines by Bryan Vanderpool of illustrious folk-pop duo The Well Pennies, the record comprises five exquisitely well-wrought songs that cloak ruminations on anxiety, substance abuse, and depression in majestic, sweetly tuneful, aw-shucks beauty.

Also appearing will be Pat Bryne. An Irish singer-songwriter, Byrne has come a long way since his first deal with Universal. In late 2017, Byrne began his migration to Austin, Texas.

In 2019, he took the US by storm, with breakout performances at the 30A Festival, SXSW, Kerrville Folk Festival and the Americana Festival.

Being immersed in the Texas music scene, Bryne’s sophomore US release, Into the Light, has an edgier feel underscoring both emotional depth and greater confidence, while blending new influences with his rich Irish heritage.

Every Sunday through August 3 this family-friendly concert series brings free live music to Wiley Park. All concerts begin at 6 p.m., and end around 8:30 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for comfortable lawn seating. A variety of food and non-food vendors will be on-site, and guests are also welcome to bring in outside food.
