The Kewanee Area United Way is still hoping that runners will enter their annual 5k race. The event raises much needed funds for the organization each year, and race entries are down from years past, said Linda Blair, executive director of the KAUW.
The 5k race will be held on Oct. 21 as part of the second annual Enchanted Pumpkin Festival. Runners are invited to dress up in their best Halloween costume. This year, those signing up will receive a United Way swag bag, and prizes and other surprises are in store for the top female and male runner.
“Our sign up this year has been slow,” said Blair, but as always we are hoping for around 60 runners.”
Participants have until Oct. 12 to sign up to ensure they receive an official t-shirt and can register online at runsignup.com. Walkers are welcome and children can register if accompanied by an adult.
Runners can “enjoy a cookie, fruit and water after the race, then go check out the Enchanted Pumpkin Festival,” said Blair.
The Halloween Hustle 5k is one of the annual fundraisers organized by the KAUW. The money raised from the event goes right back into the community to help provide necessary services in the area. Blair is urging runners not to miss out on this fun, yet hilly run.
“Don’t miss the fun and definitely don’t miss supporting a strong nonprofit that works to ensure that funds are available for those providing much-needed service. Now more than ever, we need to make sure that these services don’t disappear,” she said.
