Kewanee’s varsity team kicked off last week with a home loss against Monmouth United 9-5.
Senior Dillon Price started on the mound for the Boilers, throwing two and two-thirds innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits with four walks. Junior Logan Peed took the mound first in relief, throwing an inning and allowing two earned runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Following Peed, junior Griffin Hicks threw an inning and a third, allowing only one hit with and no runs. Senior Brady Schiltz then threw a scoreless inning of his own, followed by senior Colson Welgat who threw an inning allowing one earned run on no hits and three walks.
Offensively, the Boilers were led by Welgat who went two for three and the plate with a double, a walk and two RBIs. The Kewanee out-hit United 9-7, but free bases proved costly for the Boilermakers.
Kewanee hosted Hall for their last home game of the season and lost 5-4. Peed took the bump for the Boilers, threw five innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits.
Welgat threw two innings in relief allowing one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts. Welgat also led the offense going two for four at the plate with a double and two RBIs.
On Wednesday, the Boilers took a trip to Farmington and lost 13-3. Senior Lincoln Mason took the mound for Kewanee; he allowed 10 runs on 10 hits with three walks and two strikeouts through two and two-thirds thirds.
Junior Abram Hicks entered in relief, allowing two runs on two hits with four walks through an inning and a third.
Offensively, the Boilers faced a good arm and only collected two hits on the day. Senior Benjamin Taylor went one for three with an RBI, and Peed went one for three with two RBIs.
Kewanee ended the regular season with a huge 15-11 win in Galesburg. The Boilers kicked off the game by putting up 10 runs top of the first. Senior Landon Sheets then took the bump and allowed six earned runs on five hits and seven walks with a strikeout out.
Welgat came in as relief, throwing two and a third. He allowed three unearned runs on no hits, a walk, and four hit batters with pitches. Welgat also collected five strikeouts.
Schiltz closed the game, allowing one unearned earned run on one hit and two free passes with a huge strikeout to end the game.
The JV team started the week with a trip to Hall on Tuesday and lost 10-0 through four innings of play. Sophomore Isaiah Ince went two for two at the plate, sophomore Jackson Price and freshman Reid Nichols also had singles.
Kewanee ended their season with a trip to Farmington, where they lost 15-1
This week, the Boilers will play their regional play-in game Monday, May 19, against the Princeton Tigers in Princeton. The winner of that game will face off against IVC at Bureau Valley HS for the regional semifinal.
