Boiler Girls drop two at Brimfield Tourney

The Kewanee Boiler Girls suffered a pair losses at the Brimfield Thanksgiving Tourney. 

The Boiler Girls played Elmwood Wednesday and lost, 47-21. They took on Midwest Central-Delavan on Friday and suffered a 56-46 setback.

The Boiler Girls struggled to get their offense going Wednesday against Elmwood. 

Elmwood’s Natalie Babcock led all scorers with 14 points. Laura Rushing added 10 and Tinsley Lemmerman chipped in with nine.

Junior Tejhiana Amos had six for the Boiler Girls. Junior Mya Dearing and freshman Bailey VanWinkle each had four. 

Kewanee vs Midwest Central-Delavan

Midwest Central-Delavan took a 15-11 lead after the first quarter, but the Boiler Girls fought back and outscored MCD 13-9 in the second frame to tie the score at 24. 

Point guard Mya Dearing had eight points in the second quarter and five Boiler Girls scored in the frame.

Both teams tallied 12 points in the third quarter, so the score was tied at 36 heading into the final quarter. 

Dearing made good on two 3-pointers and scored all of Kewanee’s 10 fourth-quarter points. MCD countered with 20 points to take the 56-46 win. With the loss, the Boiler Girls fall to 0-3 on the season.

The one-two punch of Faith Harper and Carly DeSutter scored 22 and 20 to lead MCD. 

Dearing led the Boiler Girls with 21 points. Freshman Damaris Diaz contributed eight and senior Hannah Tiska chipped in with seven.
