Biggest field ever at Titan Invitational

The Annawan-Wethersfield Titan Invitational cross country meet at Midland Country Club Monday drew a record number of athletes.

The meet had 116 boys and 55 girls running the three-mile course, which Wethersfield Athletic Director Tom McGunnigal said was the “largest participation numbers ever.”

There was also a 1.5-mile run that was won by A-W freshman Cash Verstraete.

For the boys, team results were: Geneseo 38, Riverdale 71, Princeville 103, Galesburg 112, Rock Island Alleman 122, Mercer County 124, Annawan-Wethersfield 177, Sherrard 221, Ridgewood 230 and ROWVA-Williamsfield 262.

Geneseo’s Dylan Gehl finished first with a time of 15:24.2. For Annawan-Wethersfield, the first finisher was Karson Shrum at 7, followed by Noah Feltner 25, Logan Davis 35, Daylon Hendrix 53,, Matthew Ponce 57 and Lucas Fehlberg 61. Shrum’s time was 16:45.3.

The girls race was won by Knoxville 51, followed by Geneseo 71, Stark County 87, Princeville 97, Riverdale 127, Alleman 161, Mercer County 163, Rockridge 178, Orion 220 and Galesburg 249.

Annawan-Wethersfield’s Kennady Anderson finished second in a time of 18:52.2, behind race winner Emily Downing of Ridgewood, whose race-winning time was 18:23.4.

Dusti Smith of Stark County was fourth.
