Last Friday, both Wethersfield kindergarten classes hosted a lemonade stand for the community.

With kindness, smiles and glasses full of lemonade, the classes raised money for a local family in need.

Bringing in around 800 customers each year, the event is much anticipated by the community.

Each year, the classes do ABCD activities. The lemonade stand was for the letter “L”.

The two kindergarten teachers, Kyria Eastman and Shelly Gomez, have been doing this project for many years making the stand a tradition.

“This is a great way for the kids to learn about teamwork and serving the community,” said Eastman. “We hope they take away some very valuable lessons.”

Nolan Blair, a kindergartener at Wethersfield Elementary, served lemonade to his father, Kewanee Fire Department Lt. Kyle Blair, and other firefighters at their annual fundraiser.

The students take turns at 15-minute shifts. When not serving up glasses of the beverage, the students play in the grass together, adding more fun to their day.

The kids also spent the morning stirring the lemonade and making fun signs.

As they’ve done every year, the Kewanee Fire Department came out to support the students, and in return, firefighters received a refreshing glass of sunshine.
