GENESEO —The Geneseo City Council voted last week to approve a contract allowing the Geneseo Farmer’s Market to continue operating at its longtime location near the city park at Pearl and State streets.

The decision followed extensive discussion at the March 24 meeting, where vendors and residents spoke in favor of keeping the market at its current site rather than moving it near City Hall.

At Tuesday’s meeting, council members revisited two options presented in March — incorporating the market or remaining an unincorporated association. The city attorney explained that incorporation would help protect organizer Jill Darin from personal liability.

Councilman Brett Barnhartt emphasized that the suggestion to incorporate was made to ensure Darin’s legal protection in the event of a lawsuit.

Also discussed at the Geneseo City Council meeting:

–A tree‑planting ceremony will be held on Arbor Day, April 24, at State and Oakwood streets in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary.

–The Geneseo Chamber of Commerce will host an art walk April 25.

–The annual wine walk is scheduled for May 30.
