After a close game against Deer Creek-Mackinaw, the Lady Geese’s season ended their 2026 season at a loss at Bureau Valley for the super-sectional title.
Before the game, Wethersfield had a pep assembly during school, which included the introduction of all players, coaches and managers. This also included a class competition of lay-up, free throw and a three-pointer game.
The Lady Geese started off hot with the first possession of the ball, but DeeMac was right behind them. Junior Lana Scott proved why she’s a threat from beyond the arc and made her first three-pointer of the game.
Deer Creek returned the same energy by also shooting a deep three-pointer. The first quarter ended 14-8 with Wethersfield ahead.
The second quarter started with the exact same intensity as the first quarter. Senior Camryn Anderson and sophomore Abbey Carman were on fire on the backboard, getting rebounds left and right.
The second half ended similarly to the first quarter, with the final score of 23-21. The Geese were up by just two points. Fans roared with excitement from the bleachers.
Coming back for the second half, both teams were even more fired up than before. Scott hit another three-pointer to put the first points of the second half on the scoreboard. Shortly after, senior Megan Oliver put another three points on the board.
Defense was tough, and fouls were called, but the score stayed close, with DeeMac players firing off and sinking three-pointers, making the score 36-31 with the Geese down.
The final quarter came, and neither team slowed down. With tension high, the crowds were on their feet. The score remained tight, and the ball rapidly exchanged hands between teams.
DeeMac made a three-pointer to get them ahead by just two points. Wethersfield Coach Todd Hansen called a time-out with just 1.4 seconds left.
Scott went up for a three-pointer, but unfortunately it didn’t fall, and the Geese’s season came to an end with a score of 45-43.
DeeMac fans were on their feet, and the team was awarded the plaque as super sectional champs. The team will advance to state.
The Lady Geese had an incredible season, with a record of 24-10 and 9-1 in conference.
Top scorers for Wethersfield were Scott, with 15, followed by Camryn Anderson with 10.
