Wethersfield Elementary students, pre-K through third grade, will celebrate “Read Across America” the week of March 2 with themed dress‑up days that connect directly to each day’s learning goals.

On Monday it’s “Career + Dream Day,” and students will be encouraged to dress up as the profession they would like to be when they’re older. Students will also read about reaching their dreams and learning about future careers.

On Tuesday, “Diversity + Culture Day,” students will be asked to dress as something that represents them or their culture. The classes will each read books that are focuses on diversity and cultures across the world.

Wednesday is “Influential People Day,” a day when students will be asked to dress in their favorite sports team’s colors. In their classes, students will read about influential people in history.

Thursday is “Laughter is the Best Medicine Day,” where each grade will be reading books that make them laugh.

To wrap up the week, Friday is “Favorites Day,” where students are encouraged to dress in their favorite outfits or colors. Students will read their favorite books and learn about their classmates’ favorite books.

Read Across America is on March 2 and coincides with Literacy Week. Both events have a goal of encouraging students to read more. Read Across America’s focus is on diverse books and authors and kicks off on Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Wethersfield students will celebrate Literacy Night for elementary students on March 16. The reading night was previously scheduled for March 2 but was changed due to a scheduling conflict with the Lady Geese basketball game.
