A Kewanee man was jailed on burglary and drug charges after an arrest last month on South Tremont Street.
Kewanee police reported Friday that Natanael Camacho, 20, was arrested after police received a report of “a suspicious person at a residence” in the 700 block of South Tremont.
“Upon arrival, officers identified the individual as Camacho, who was found to be intoxicated,” according to a news release issued Friday by Police Chief Stephen Kijanowski.
The news release said Camacho was found in possession of “items commonly used in burglaries,” stolen property, approximately $500 in cash, multiple THC vapes, several pills presumptively identified as a controlled substance, approximately 448 grams of cannabis and drug packaging material.
During the investigation, officers determined that two motor vehicles had been burglarized and linked the crimes to Camacho, the release said. A 9mm pistol was also located outside of one of the vehicles and was determined not to belong to the vehicle’s owner.

Camacho was transported to the Henry County Jail. The Henry County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed the following charges:
Camacho was also involved in an incident Aug. 17 in the 500 block of South Main Street, Kijanowski reported. On Aug. 17 at approximately midnight, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of South Main Street. The vehicle was occupied by three individuals: the driver, Braden Merritt, 19, of East Peoria; a passenger, Camacho; and a 17-year-old juvenile.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a 9mm pistol, ammunition, approximately 37 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 769.6 grams of cannabis, approximately $2,500 in cash, a digital scale, and other related items, the news release said.
Following SAFE-T Act guidelines, Merritt and Camacho were released with notices to appear in court. The juvenile was released to a parent with a juvenile referral submitted to the Henry County Probation Office.
Merritt’s charges will be filed by the Henry County State’s Attorney’s office prior to his scheduled court appearance on Oct. 13, the release said.
“The Kewanee Police Department continues to investigate these incidents, and additional charges may be filed as the investigations progress,” the release concluded.
