Young anglers, grab your gear and get ready to cast your line and swap some stories at the annual Kids Fishing Rodeo, which returns to Windmont Park Saturday for another round of friendly competition.

The rodeo, sponsored by the Kewanee Park District and Oldeen Roofing is a chance for area kids, 16 and under, to win prizes and trophies. Registration begins on Saturday, June 7 at 7 a.m. and fishing begins at 8 a.m. Free T-shirts and worms are available while supplies last. The park district reminds participants to bring their own supplies and tackle to the event.

On Wednesday, June 4, Herman Brother Fisheries out of Hanna City delivered 1350 pounds of channel catfish, averaging around five pounds each, to the lagoon.

A worker with the fisheries gave kids, who had gathered at the park to watch the restocking, a peek at the fish that would go into the lagoon. [Photo by Susan DeVilder]

Parks Director Andrew Dwyer said the cost of the fish is $5,000 and reminds residents that now that the pond has been stocked, only kids 16 and under are allowed to fish at the Windmont Park lagoon during the month of June.

The rodeo is open to area kids and free to enter. More information can be obtained by phoning 309-852-2872.
