KEWANEE WEATHER

What’s happening at the Kewanee Public Library in February?

By The Kewanee Voice    February 10, 2025

Anniversary Extravaganza

As part of the continuing celebration of the library’s 150th anniversary, throughout February, the public is invited to take a trip down memory lane with staff, and share memories of the Kewanee Public Library District with them. Stop in to get a paper prompt, add a comment on one of their shared Facebook memories, or email dardingh@kewaneelibrary.org.

If patrons prefer the memory to remain private, let staff know in the email or on the paper response. The library staff will be sharing responses on their Facebook throughout the month.

Movies @ the Carnegie

Watch movies at the library. Each month, staff will be showing a different movie. They are still working on fine-tuning which times work for everyone, so if patrons have a specific day of the week or time that works for them, stop by the Information Services desk and let staff know.

Also, let the staff know if there’s a specific movie that you’d like them to show. In February, our showings will be on the Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. and Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m.

Coding for Tweens – Feb. 12 @ 3:30 pm

Guest instructor Andrew Mansheim of Black Hawk East will join staff once again for another class of Coding for Tweens on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 3:30 p.m.  Children between the ages of 9 and 12 are invited. As seats are limited, registration is required.

Stop by the Youth Services Desk on the second floor or give them a call at 309-852-4505 to register.

Teen Zine Workshop – Feb. 14, 3-6 p.m.

Make your voice heard. Teens aged 13 to 18 are invited to join staff and express their creativity with the library’s zine workshop.

Everyone will make their own zine, which can be displayed in the YA room at the library, if desired; and learn all of the basics along the way.  You’ll learn how to format, fold, add mixed media, and different techniques to make your zine your own.

Online Author Talk – Slowing Down with Amy Tan

Take a minute to relax by Slowing Down with Amy Tan. On Feb. 19 at 7 p.m., author Amy Tan, best known for her novel The Joy Luck Club, will reflect on her body of work and on the wonder of slowing down and savoring the quiet moments.

This author talk will be available on Zoom. Simply head to our website (kewaneelibrary.org) for the meeting link.

This event is made possible by Illinois Libraries Present (ILP), a statewide collaboration among public libraries offering premier events. ILP is funded in part by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library, a department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act.

Digital Literacy Class

Since there was still interest in the library’s digital literacy classes, they are bringing them back. Once again, available topics are Essential Computer Skills, which would be basic computer skills; Essential Software Skills, or office productivity skills; and Technology Tools in Daily Life, which will teach you practical computer skills.

If you have a more specific question, you are welcome to stop in during the class and the staff will work with you to figure it out. Classes are now by appointment, so give them a call at 309-852-4505 and ask for the Information Services desk to schedule yours today.
