An investigation into the sale and production of illegal firearms and a search of a Kewanee residence led to the arrest of a Kewanee man on Wednesday.

Bobby Charlet, 24, Kewanee, was taken into custody and charged with gunrunning, unlawful possession of weapons and three counts of unlawful sale or delivery of firearms.

According to a press release, the Kewanee Police Department, assisted by the Black Hawk Area Task Force, executed a search warrant in the 1200 block of Roseview Avenue. The search warrant was part of the investigation into the sale and production of non-serialized firearms. At that time, Charlet was identified as the suspect and taken into custody without incident, the release said.

A search of Charlet’s residence turned up 10 non-serialized firearms, a silencer, 3-D printing equipment, a computer, and a large amount of ammunition.

Charlet was taken to the Henry County Jail. On Thursday, Jan. 23, the Henry County State’s Attorney’s Office formally charged Charlet with gun running, a Class 1 felony, 10 counts of serialization of unfinished frames or receivers; prohibition on unserialized firearms, Class A misdemeanors; unlawful possession of weapons(silencer), a Class 3 felony, and three counts of unlawful sale or delivery of firearms, Class 4 felonies.

A Class 1 felony carries a potential sentence of four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Charlet was granted pretrial release.
