Wethersfield defeats Stark County in Senior Night matchup

On Monday night, the Geese defeated the Stark County Rebels in two sets. 

The Geese started the night by celebrating their senior players. The girls were announced and escorted by the ones who are important to them. 

The senior players for the Geese are Camryn Anderson, Abigail Cabada, Emilia Escareno, Natalie Nelson, Megan Oliver, Laura Senteney and Wavelynn Peart.

The team also recognized Stark County’s seniors by congratulating them on their accomplishments and giving them a gift.

The first set started on a roll for the Geese. Serves by seniors Abigail and Natalie gave the Geese a strong lead over the Rebels. 

The girls also had great teamwork that allowed them to keep pulling ahead. 

The Geese go up for a block. 

The Rebels responded by having some good blocks over the Geese. The Rebels managed to catch up mid-set due to mistakes by the Geese. The Geese did not allow this to happen for long.

The Geese completed many kills that the Rebels could not pick up, and won the first set 25-15. 

The second set started a little differently. The game was tied for most of the start.

Neither team could get on a roll to catch an early lead. They challenged each other, leading to many rallies. 

The Geese started to pull ahead when they showcased great work at the net. This made the Rebels call a timeout. They hoped to come back stronger. 

Returning to the court, the Geese continued to pull ahead. The Rebels had many good moments, but it was not enough in the end. The Geese won the second set 25-8. 

Wethersfield’s season record now sits at 27-5. They are 10-0 in conference. They currently sit at 1st in the Lincoln-Trail Conference. 

The Geese will travel to United on Wednesday and Elmwood on Thursday. Both games will have all three levels: freshman at 5 p.m., JV at 6 p.m., and varsity at 7 p.m. 

With this being the last week of the regular season, the 1A Varsity Volleyball regionals will be starting next week. In the subsectional, the Geese are seeded second. 

The sectional is then divided into regions. The Geese are seeded first in their region. The regionals will take place in Bureau Valley.

Abigail Cabada 15 assists. 6 digs, 3 aces, 2 kills, 1 block

Camryn Anderson 7 kills, 1 block, 1 assist, 3 digs

Kyleigh Anderson 3 kills, 4 blocks, 1 dig

Jordan Nelson 6 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs

Natalie Nelson 10 digs, 2 aces

Megan Oliver 1 kill

Ashley Oliver 2 kills

Wavelynnn Peart 4 digs, 1 ace

Emilia Escareno 8 digs

Tinsley Newman 2 digs, 2 blocks, 1 ace

Laura Senteney 2 digs

Wethersfield sophomores defeated Stark County 22-25, 25-14, 15-11 and the the Stark County freshmen defeated Wethersfield 21-11, 21-12.
