Titans get wins over Morrison, Sherrard

Last week, the varsity Titans baseball team won games against the Morrison Mustangs and the Sherrard Tigers.

On Wednesday they took on the Mustangs and won after taking the lead late in the game. 

The game was tied at three in the top of the eighth when Myer Heitzler singled, driving in two runs.

The Mustangs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Carson White singled down the left field line, and Jake Strobbe grounded out, each scoring one run.

Maddux Heitzler flew into a double play, which helped the Titans tie the game at two in the top of the second.

The Titans took the lead in the top of the third. A wild pitch scored one run, to give the Titans the upper hand, 3-2.

Collin Renkes singled down the left field line on the seventh pitch of the at-bat, which helped the Mustangs tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth.

Dane Ross led things off on the mound for the Titans. The pitcher allowed six hits and two runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one. The Titans reliever, Maddux Heitzler, gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking one. 

Myer Heitzler drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Titans with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Pierce Childs, Jaxson Dunn, Ross, Maddux Heitzler, and Myer Heitzler each collected one hit for the Titans. Childs paced the Titans with two walks. 

Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Pierce Childs and Maddux Heitzler each stole multiple bases for the Titans. The Titans ran wild on the base paths, amassing five stolen bases for the game.

In the end, they came out on top with a final score of 3-2.

Then on Thursday, the Titans defeated the Tigers 2-1. Myer Heitzler started the game for the Titans and recorded 19 outs.

A solo home run to center field by Jaton Huber put the Titans on the board in the bottom of the second.

The Titans added one run in the third after Childs singled down the left field line on an 0-2 count.

The Titans’ starting pitcher, Myer Heitzler, surrendered six hits and one run over six and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking one. 

Harrison Curry stepped on the mound first for the Tigers. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking one. Maddux Heitzler appeared in relief for the Titans.

Maddux Heitzler set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the Titans with three hits in three at-bats. Childs and Huber each drove in one run for the Titans. 

Maddux Heitzler stole two bases. The Titans were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Aaden Verstraete made the most plays with 10.
