On Friday, the Kewanee Parks District kicked off the season by turning on the water to the Liberty Park splash pad. Now in its second year of operation, the fun feature is approaching the one-year anniversary of its debut back in July 2025.

Despite the breeze, the sun shone on opening day with temperatures hovering in the 70s. Over the weekend, even more families turned out to frolic in the spray.

The splash pad highlights the growing effort by the Kewanee Park District to create safe, family-friendly spaces. The park district received an Open Land Acquisition and Development grant in 2024 for the water feature. The grant also assisted in building a restroom facitlity in the park.

With its central location in a residential area, the splash pad is a walkable destination for families to be able to cool off when summer temperatures spike.

The operating hours will be every day from 10 a.m.-8p.m.
