Reader suggests donation to help with Galva’s carbon-leak response gap

Dear Kewanee Voice Editor,

I read with great interest the article “Audit finds Galva lacks resources to handle carbon dioxide release” and I understand the concerns that the citizens of Galva have regarding the safety issues surrounding the proposed carbon capture deal between Lapis Carbon Solutions and Big River Resources. As a resident of Kewanee, as close as we are to Galva, I am also concerned.

Amanda Stodgel made some excellent points in her comments at the recent Galva City Council meeting. One point being that Galva would be lacking the required two properly equipped dedicated passenger ambulances at all times. She pointed out that even if Galva had those dedicated ambulances, in the event of an emergency involving a leak in the carbon capture facility, those vehicles will not operate because they require oxygen and carbon dioxide replaces oxygen.

Galva officials should suggest to Lapis Carbon Solutions that the company donate to the city of Galva two, fully equipped electric passenger ambulances. Should Lapis comply, Galva would then have the required, dedicated ambulances that would actually be able to operate in the event that a catastrophic leak occurred.

Just a thought!

Sincerely,
