This is a busy time at the Kewanee Park District, as preparations are being made for this year’s park programs.
“First up, soccer registration is open,” said Andrew Dwyer, the park district’s executive director.

Shelter rentals are live and available on the park district’s website.
Chautauqua Park’s shelter is going through a “much-needed renovation,” Dwyer said, and is expected to be complete by early May.
“We have high expectations that this will be the standard and plan to renovate the other shelters in the coming years to match,” he said.
The Easter egg hunt is scheduled for March 28.
Baseball and softball registration will be going live in early March.
The new splash pad in Liberty Park is slated to open in early to mid May, based on the weather.
“We had such a great first year, we are excited for year two!” Dwyer said.
The fishing rodeo at the Windmont Park lagoon is all set and ready to go for June 6, he said. Dredging of the lagoon is scheduled for this spring, but Dwyer said that project should be completed in time for the fishing rodeo and “will have no impact on the fish.”
The golf clinic and league will be starting up in early June and adult golf leagues are going to be kicking off various dates in April and into May.
“Reach out to the office (309-852-2872) if you have a desire to join one and we will connect you with the proper people,” Dwyer said.
Day camps are well into planning for the year. “We are excited to see them continue to grow and provide new and exciting activities and trips,” Dwyer said.
The movie in the park was a hit on a Friday night last year after T-ball and that is scheduled again on Friday, June 26. The movie is still to be determined, but Dwyer said it will be a “recent hit.”
Activity rates for all of the above (if a fee is collected) are on the park website. So are early bird golf rates that are being accepted until the end of February.
If all that isn’t enough, park officials are focusing on the design of an expansion at the 19th Hole restaurant and the delivery of services and events throughout the year.
The 19th Hole will be opening for the season somewhere around April 1 depending on the weather, Dwyer said.
