The Kewanee Woman’s Club donated $2,000 to the Kewanee Preservation Society to support ongoing restoration work at Woodland Palace, the historic home of Fred Francis in Francis Park.

The club originally contacted the Preservation Society last year offering to help fund an exterior inscription at the palace. When Lacky Monument offered to donate that service, the Woman’s Club decided instead to hold a soup supper this spring and contribute the proceeds to the restoration effort.

The fundraiser was held Feb. 15 at the Elks. On March 26, Woman’s Club President Becky Bengtson presented the $2,000 check to Lee Bailleu, treasurer of the Kewanee Preservation Society.

The Woman’s Club expressed appreciation to the many businesses and individuals who contributed to the event’s success. They thanked Kara Garkin of Time Out for providing chili and soups, as well as Cerno’s, the Elks and the Shamrock for their donations. Additional thanks were extended to the Senior Center, Downtown Eatery, Country Morning Coffee, Sav‑A‑Lot, CoCo’s Coffee Shop, Blissful Branch, Empire Books and the Kewanee Woman’s Club members for basket donations and desserts.
