The Kewanee Police Department recently completed a successful Halloween traffic safety enforcement campaign.
Police Chief Stephen Kijanowski said the campaign resulted in one impaired driving arrest, nine citations for seat belt violations, 19 speeding citations, seven citations for other traffic offenses and one misdemeanor arrest.
“This enforcement effort was part of a statewide initiative focused on preventing crashes and saving lives by keeping impaired drivers off the roads and ensuring motorists and passengers were properly restrained,” Kijanowski said.
The fall campaign ran from Oct. 24 through Nov. 3 and supported the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI.” initiatives.
The enforcement effort was made possible through federal highway safety funds provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
