Just a few weeks after opening, Wang’s Asian Cuisine has been shuttered by the Henry County Health Department. A red sign announcing the closure was posted on the restaurant’s door on Wednesday.

The business, operated by Hsien Wang, was the former location for the Great Wall restaurant which was shut down by the health department before the previous owners closed the business permanently and left town sometime last fall. The business was then sold to Wang.

According to the inspection report dated Jan. 15, Wang’s Asian Cuisine racked up a dozen violations and the business is noted as a Risk Category 1. That category of risk means that the restaurant handles raw food and the risk to public safety is higher than other food establishments because of the variety of food being prepared.

According to the HCHD, the food permit for the restaurant is suspended. Restaurant permits can be suspended after repeat violations on three inspections are noted or the business refuses inspection.

The inspection report states that the business was not in compliance in several areas from supervision; employee health, preventing contamination by hands; food in good condition and safe; protection from contamination that listed food separated and protected, and food contact surfaces cleaned and sanitized.

Still other violations included issues with garbage and refuse disposal and facilities maintenance. Not all employees possess the proper training to be food handlers and lacked allergen training, according to the report.

The inspection listed over two dozen corrective actions that needed to be taken by the restaurant owner and several observations noted that a complaint was received, although the health department said those complaints aren’t made public.

Many online comments from customers who dined at the recently opened restaurant have included complaints about the food’s temperatures, with many of those customers mentioning cold food on the buffet. A notation on the inspection report states that a repeat-recheck fee may be applied to the establishment if the buffet can’t maintain temperatures and that the HCHD may embargo the buffet unit.

The restaurant will remain closed until a compliance conference with the owners can be scheduled. No date for that conference has been set.
