This is a perfect opportunity to wish all of our readers, supporters and advertisers a safe and happy Fourth of July from the staff and board of directors of The Kewanee Voice.
We would also like to announce that the staff of The Kewanee Voice will be taking a four-day weekend for the holiday starting on July 4.
News has been coming fast and furious over the last few months, so we are giving everyone some much-needed time off to relax, recharge their batteries and spend time with their families. Our coverage will resume on Monday, July 8. Of course, if there are any breaking news stories over those four days, we will be sure to bring them to you as they happen.
We have reached some major milestones lately and we will not only be announcing some exciting news in the coming weeks, but on Wednesday, we surpassed a much-anticipated milestone of 6,000 Facebook followers.
To celebrate that milestone, next week we will announce another fun Facebook contest give-a-way like our gas card give-away a few months ago when we reached 5,000 followers.
We owe that growth in followers to all of you, who like, share and comment on our posts. Your engagement helps new readers discover The Kewanee Voice. So thanks for following our Facebook page and thanks for sharing our articles to your friends and family.
We also received the latest Google Analytics numbers for our website and they are pretty remarkable. The growth that The Kewanee Voice has had in just a few months exceeds all of our wildest expectations.
In June, our website saw 45,549 unique visitors to the site, (an increase from May of about 6,000 users) 111,000 web visits and 200,000 page views. Those visitors come from Kewanee and all over the area in places like Peoria, Princeton and over 2,100 users from Geneseo.
As we continue to grow and in time expand our coverage, we hope that you will remember that we are a nonprofit news organization and we rely mainly on donations and business sponsorships.
We have been overwhelmed by the community’s support and so very grateful that your generosity allows us to serve the community we love. We thank each and every one of you who have donated, along with our sponsors and advertisers for supporting local news, information and sports.
But we have a favor. We are asking our readers who have come to rely on our coverage, to please consider making a monthly recurring donation. Even $5 or $10 a month from just a few thousand of our readers would ensure we can continue on in our mission to provide local news and information for years to come.
