A new take and bake service has taken Cambridge by storm. The frozen, homemade meals offered at Grandma Julie’s don’t last long.

The store, located at 119 W. Court St., is owned by longtime caterer, Julie Carlson, and offers frozen entrees and meats, to-go lunch boxes, baked goods and even ice cream, and it’s not uncommon for items, especially the cheesy potatoes to sell out in record time.

“You have to get here by 11:05 to get cheesy potatoes,” said regular customer, Dick Stinson.

Ever since the business opened its door with a soft opening on Sept. 27, customers have rushed to get Carlson’s frozen sides and entrees.

“It’s very convenient and friendly,” said Sally Vincent, another frequent customer.

Connie Bowers manages Grandma Julie’s and said the community has really responded to the take and bake concept. Within two days of opening, the fully-stocked freezer cases were empty, she said.

“They love it. It’s been needed,” said Bowers.

All the entrees come packaged with directions for baking them at home. In addition to cheesy potatoes, the store sells casseroles such as chicken alfredo, Tex Mex, ham and cheesy potatoes and lasagna, along with chicken pot pies, meatloaf and ham loaf. Heat and eat sandwiches, such as BBQ sloppy joes, pork, chicken and taco meat can also be purchased.

Carlson, along with the help of four other cooks and bakers, makes all of the meals at home. Baked item choices can include coffee cake and turtle brownies. Hand-dipped ice cream with toppings is also sold at the store.

Carlson utilizes a Facebook page to promote their daily items and the pans come in several sizes from one-pound to three-pounds. Prices range from $5 for a small pan to $24 for pans that serve families of six.

But Bowers said many of the items sell out quickly so customers need to come early to get their favorites.

The business hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday.
