Two Kewanee man were arrested this week after a man was reported displaying a weapon at Fairview Apartments.
DeAngelo Garner, 32, was charged with assault after he “became confrontational and aggressive with officers” investigating the weapons report, according to a news release from Deputy Police Chief Steve Kijanowski.
And Brian Ocampo, 21, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Kijanowski reported that on Sept. 19 at approximately 8:52 p.m., Kewanee officers responded to an apartment in Fairview regarding an unknown individual displaying a firearm from a vehicle while asking for the location of a teenager who lives in Fairview. Officers were unable to locate the suspect. Officers began investigating the incident and arrested Garner, who was released with a notice to appear.
About an hour later, officers received a second call that the suspect with a firearm had returned to the area in the same vehicle. Officers observed a vehicle matching the description given by witnesses on the initial incident.
Police stopped the vehicle in the 500 block of East Third Street. Kijanowski reported that during the traffic stop, officers located a Glock handgun with a loaded extended magazine, a second Glock handgun with an extended magazine, and two Smith and Wesson handguns.
Officers also collected 181 rounds of ammunition from the vehicle. Ocampo was arrested and taken to the Henry County Jail.
On Sept. 20, the Henry County state’s attorney’s office filed charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (Class 4 felony) against Ocampo. Ocampo was placed on supervised release and his preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon carries a potential sentence of one to three years in prison.
