Eighteen teams from all over Henry County will gather together for the Henry County Charity Softball Classic hosted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Department and the Henry County Board. The tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 16 at 8 am at Northeast Park in Kewanee on the Little League diamonds and Case fields.
The day will include raffles, a bake sale and lunch items from a concession stand. Residents are invited to come out and cheer for their favorite first responders.
Proceeds this year will go to the Nicholas Welgat family. The Kewanee Police Chief is fighting Stage 4 lung cancer that has progressed into different parts of his body.
“He is currently taking one day at a time, but appreciates all of the love and support his family has been given by our community and surrounding areas,” said event coordinator and Henry County Board Member, Jeanna Moore, in a statement on social media.
Moore also acknowledged all of the people who donated baked goods, food items, raffle items for the event, as well as the event DJ, Lora Creech, with Good Times Entertainment. A shout out was also given to the Kewanee Park District for providing the fields for the softball games.
“Thank you also to the great sponsors and teams that have supported this event without hesitation. We are blessed to have such a beautiful outpouring for the Welgat family,” her post read.
