With Halloween and fall just around the corner, the Kewanee Area United Way (KAUW) has announced a partnership with the Enchanted Pumpkin Festival for its annual 5K race.
The race will start at 9 am prior to the 10 am start time of the festival at the Flemish American Club located at 313 N. Burr Blvd. Check in is no later than 8:45 am. The course is out and back with a few hills and the race is open to runners ages 10 to 17, when accompanied by a registered adult. Registered adults 18 and over may bring children 9 years-old and younger at no cost, and families are welcome.
The cost includes a chip-timed course and a short-sleeve shirt if registered by Oct. 12 at noon. Registration is $20 by Sept. 12; $25 by Oct. 12, and $30 if registered by Oct. 20. Register at www.RunSignUp.com. Contact the KAUW at (309) 761-8447 or through email at kewaneeareaunitedway@gmail.com to volunteer for the event.
An awards ceremony will be held following the race. Medals will be awarded to the top three females and the top three male runners. An additional prize will be awarded to the fastest male and fastest female runners.
Swag bags will be given to the first 30 runners to sign up, and the items in the swag bag are courtesy of Peoples National Bank, NTiva, KAUW and other area businesses. So far, IHMVCU, State Bank of Toulon, JMAC Metals, Big River Resources and CSB in Galva have donated to help cover other event expenses.
“We are thankful for all of the donors that help make this a fun event,” the press release reads.
Packet pick-up will be on Oct. 20, 2-5:30 pm at Breedlove’s Sporting Goods at 112 N. Tremont St. or on Oct. 21, from 8-8:30 am at the Flemish American Club.
The Enchanted Pumpkin Festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 21 in downtown Kewanee.
