GALVA, Ill.– The University of Illinois Extension is inviting area residents out for a fun day of activities at their 6th annual “Farm in the Park” event at Veterans Memorial Park located at 388 Front Street in Galva, right across from the Extension office. The event offers a variety of activities for all ages, celebrating the vital role of agriculture in our daily lives.
A petting zoo with an array of farm animals will be on hand for kids and adults alike. There will be “make and take crafts” and, for the little ones, “farmer for a day” stations letting them explore apple picking, egg gathering, and even milking a cow. The events are intended to spark their curiosity, and foster a deeper appreciation for agriculture. Young adventurers can hunt for fun ag facts through seek and find signs and get rewarded with prizes for completing their activity passport card.
The “Farm in the Park” also brings a focus on nutrition and wellness, with interactive stations offering games and lessons on healthy eating habits and staying active. Participants can learn from the Illinois Extension’s Eat Move Save nutrition program, pick up a 2023 IL Extension Recipe Calendar, and grab a reusable tote bag, while supplies last.
Horticulture enthusiasts will enjoy talking with Illinois Extension Master Gardeners, ready to share gardening tips and resources. Extension educators will be on hand to share information about Vermicomposting, ways to reduce food waste, nutrient loss reduction, and water quality.
While enjoying all the activities, visitors can “lunch with a purpose” and refuel with a hot dog meal deal for just $5, which includes chips, applesauce, a cookie, and a drink. Proceeds from the meal sales will benefit Henry County 4-H, supporting their valuable initiatives in the community.
