If everything goes right, the Wanee Theater should reopen by Friday, according to Mike Quagliano, the son of the late Bud Johnson and co-manager of the Kewanee theater.

Quagliano said that after a quarter of a century, the cash register finally gave out.

“My dad always said, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,’” he said.

Unfortunately, the cash register did break, forcing the theater to close on Wednesday. Since many of the employees are recent hires and business has been strong, replacing the old cash register was imperative to keep operations running efficiently.

Quagliano said the new equipment has been programmed and expects delivery tomorrow. The theater will remain closed Thursday night with the expectation of opening for the weekend.

The theater is currently looking for a qualified manager to take over the Kewanee landmark. Quagliano lives in Chicago and has been traveling to Kewanee every weekend, and the situation isn’t ideal. Qualified applicants interested in the position are invited to contact Quagliano at (630) 818-6861.

This weekend’s movies will be Barbie and the Haunted Mansion, a Disney film. Showtime is at 7 pm each night.
