In the kitchen with Kim: Million Dollar Spaghetti

Last week I was planning a large family dinner, and decided that pasta was a good route. I found a recipe and decided to make Million Dollar Spaghetti, and since we had quite a few people coming, I made two pans.

This is an easy recipe to adjust depending on how many people you’re feeding. You could double the recipe in two pans for a larger group, like I did, or cut everything in half and make a smaller pan for your family. I think it would also be a great recipe to divide into two smaller pans and put one in the freezer for another night.

Million Dollar Spaghetti is really a baked spaghetti casserole with layers of noodles, meat sauce, a creamy cheese mixture and plenty of cheese on top. The cream cheese, cottage cheese and sour cream make the middle especially rich and creamy.

The flavors in this are great, and it is definitely filling. Add some garlic bread and a salad, and you have an easy meal that can feed quite a few people. We had plenty for our big family dinner, and it was nice having something I could put together ahead of time and then just bake when we were ready to eat.

From our kitchen to yours — enjoy!

Million Dollar Spaghetti

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. spaghetti
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 jar (24 oz.) spaghetti sauce
  • 1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 c. cottage cheese
  • 1/2 c. sour cream
  • 1 t. garlic powder
  • 1 t. Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 c. butter, divided
  • 2 c. shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 c. shredded Parmesan cheese

Directions

–Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
–Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain.
–Meanwhile, brown the ground beef and onion in a large skillet. ——Drain any excess grease. Add spaghetti sauce and simmer for about 5 minutes.
–In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Mix until well combined. It doesn’t need to be completely smooth.
–Cut 1/4 c. butter into slices and arrange them across the bottom of the baking dish.
–Place half of the cooked spaghetti over the butter.
–Spread the cream cheese mixture over the spaghetti.
–Add the remaining spaghetti. Cut the remaining 1/4 c. butter into slices and place over the noodles.
–Pour the meat sauce evenly over the top.
–Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan.
–Bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, until hot and bubbly and the cheese is melted. Let sit for about 10 minutes before serving.
